Attempted child abduction foiled
The area residents were able to foil an attempt to abduct a little girl in Wilgodawatte, Kurunegala recently (Jan. 04).

The little girl's father accuses that although the person who attempted to grab the child has been identified, police are yet to arrest him.

Inhara Wilwalaarachchi, aged 3 1/2 years, is living with her father and grandmother.

On that day, after returning home from her pre-school, she had gone to a nearby shop with her grandmother.

Then an unknown person had attempted to grab the child and flee. However, he had slipped and fell.

Then the area residents swiftly intervened and saved the child.

Both the child and grandmother were injured in the incident, which was clearly captured by a nearby CCTV.

The footage shows another woman in the company of the suspect and she was believed to be the mother of the child.

The child's parents are living separately and her guardianship has been temporarily vested with the father.

Police said since this was a family dispute, the relevant persons have been informed to surrender and since they have not done so, the suspects would be arrested in future.
