Dubai: Arjun Gupta putted two to claim the 2018 Omega Dubai Creek Men’s Amateur Open title — the first EGF order of merit event.
After two days grueling action, a front nine of 36 (+1) put Gupta in touch with the leaders and with birdies on the 10th and 13th and he was firmly in control.
Parring the next four holes he stood on the 18th tee at one under for his round and 4 over for the tournament with a three-shot lead over Cunnifee and Firdaus. Amazingly, after a wayward drive, his ball hit a rock and bounced out from the creek into the middle of the 18th fairway leaving only a short iron into the green.
Earlier, the Best Gross on day one went to Craig Vance with an excellent 73 (+2) with Mark Williams claiming the day 2 Best Gross with a round of 74 (+3).
The Best Net prize on day 1 was clinched by James McSweeney with an impressive 64 (-7). The day 2 Best Net was awarded to Dubai Creek member Stephen Barker who scored 71. JP Fitzgerald claimed the overall net prize with a two day total of 146 with rounds of 79 and 67 (+4). Saeed Malik took the second place net rounds of 73 and 73 (+4), whilst a two day total of 147 was enough for Jay Mullane to claim third.
