Adrian Burnette out as Bastrop's head coach

For the fifth time in as many years, Bastrop High is searching for a head football coach.

For the fifth straight year, the Bastrop Rams will have a new head football coach.

According to multiple sources, Adrian Burnette was relieved of his duties Monday after just one season as head coach.

KNOE Channel 8 Sports Director Aaron Dietrich first reported Burnette's firing Monday night via Twitter: "Morehouse school board Vice President Rose Thompson tells @KNOE8 that Bastrop head coach Adrian Burnette has been fired."

The reason for Burnette's dismissal was not immediately available.

Bastrop was 5-5 in its only season under Burnette, including a 50-24 first round playoff loss to George Washington Carver in New Orleans.

Attempts to reach Morehouse Parish Schools Superintendent Hazel Sellers and Burnette by phone were unsuccessful.

Burnette was promoted to head coach in February after fellow Bastrop High alumnus Marcus Yanez coached the Rams to a 5-5 mark as interim head coach in 2016.

Burnette spent two seasons as the Rams' offensive coordinator prior to being promoted to his first head coaching position. He was hired by Brad Bradshaw, Bastrop's current athletic director in 2015. Bastrop reached the quarterfinals in Bradshaw's one-year return as head coach.

A 1997 BHS graduate, Burnette rejoined the Rams in 2007 as wide receivers coach. Bastrop won its final of three straight Class 4A state titles that season.

Burnette later served as offensive coordinator at Carroll and New Orleans St. Augustine (2013-14) where he coached former LSU star and current Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette.

Following a stellar high school career, Burnette signed with Tulane where he put together a career line of 173 receptions, 2,741 yards and 24 touchdowns. He finished his college career with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons.
