Delhi woke up to a cold morning on Monday with mercury sinking to five degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD). In the weekly forecast, IMD said shallow and moderate fog will continue in this week. The maximum temperature will fluctuate between seven and 22 degrees Celsius.
Skymet, a private weather forecaster, said moderate to dense fog was recorded over the rest of Indo-Gangetic Plains. “Cold wave conditions are likely over parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Delhi till Wednesday,” Skymet mentioned in Tuesday’s Forecast.
Relative humidity in air was 97 per cent at 8.30am.. At 8 30am, the Palam station recorded a visibility of 400 metres, while it was 800 metres at Safdarjung, IMD official said.
Fog also affected the movement of trains headed towards north India as visibility was low. According to a railways official, 50 north-bound trains were running late while eight were rescheduled. Eighteen others were cancelled.
The MeT office predicted a clear sky for Tuesday. Maximum temperature is expected to settle around 21 degrees Celsius.
