PALO ALTO — Caltrans on Monday closed two lanes of northbound Highway 101 in Palo Alto for emergency repairs.
The closure was ordered just north of Embarcadero Road at 3:30 p.m. when pavement in the two right lanes began to loosen and unravel, creating deep grooves and potholes, according to Caltrans.
Maintenance crews are at the scene and a pavement contactor is en route, Caltrans reported.
Crews have applied a patching material in an effort to reopen the lanes, but cold, wet weather could keep them closed until Tuesday night, after drier weather allows for a permanent fix, according to Caltrans.
