ELLSWORTH — The Hesston High School wrestling team finished sixth Saturday at the 45th Ellsworth Invitational.

Hoisington topped the 12-team field at 186, followed by Nickerson at 100, Hill City at 78.5, Russell at 77, Ellsworth at 63 and Hesston at 58.

The Swathers were led by Sean Duerksen, who won the title at 220 pounds at 2-0. In the finals, Duerksen pinned Brendan Tripp of Ellsworth in 3:15.

Matt Whitsitt took second at 160 pounds at 3-1. Whitsitt lost his final match to Joshua Ball of Hoisington 14-0. The loss was Whitsitt’s first of the season.

At 126 pounds, Jason Hecht finished in third in 3-2.

At heavyweight, Alex Koehn finished third at 2-2.

At 152 pounds, Austin Griffin placed sixth at 1-4.

Owen O’Halloran finished 1-2 at 182 pounds.

Hesston competes Friday and Saturday at the Halstead Invitational.
