The drama has already impressed audiences internationally, and got its wide release in the USA back in December after proving a hit on the festival circuit.

The good news is that British film fans don’t have long to wait: the movie releases this Friday, January 12.

In a busy weekend for awards contenders, it will be joined on the market by The Darkest Hour, as well as Insidious: The Last Key.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, was a big winner at last night’s Golden Globes and is expected to do similarly well at the Oscars in March.

The movie is directed and written by Martin McDonagh and stars Frances McDormand as a mother who challenges local authorities to solve her daughter’s murder, when they fail to catch the killer.

She stars alongside Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell, the latter of whom won Best Supporting Actor at last night’s Globes.

McDormand is the star attraction: she won Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama), while McDonagh was awarded for his screenplay and the movie itself won Best Motion Picture (Drama).

Three Billboards should also feature heavily in tomorrow’s BAFTA shortlist, and on the list of Oscars contenders.

Other big movies nearing release in the UK include Coco on January 19 - the latest from Pixar - and The Post, starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, on the same day.

Other upcoming awards contenders include Phantom Thread (February 2), Roman J Israel Esq (February 2) and The Shape of Water (February 14).
