Manchester City have opened talks with Arsenal about signing Alexis Sanchez in a £30m deal.
Etihad bosses have made contact with the Gunners to establish if a deal can be done in this transfer window.
City boss Pep Guardiola would like to bring forward his attempts to sign Sanchez after seeing Gabriel Jesus ruled out for up to two months with damaged ankle ligaments, as revealed in Starsport last month.
The Gunners could be willing to strike a deal at the right price, but will want to move fast to give them time to bring in a replacement before the transfer window closes.
City were confident of signing Sanchez on a free transfer in the summer when his contract expires.
The Chilean superstar has made it clear he wants to join Guardiola's side instead of going to Paris St-Germain.
Arsenal’s likely line-up to face Chelsea away in Carabao Cup semi-finals

Arsenal and Manchester City are both in contact with West Brom over the signing of Jonny Evans.
The former Manchester United defender is wanted by both Arsene Wenger and Pep Guardiola.
And BBC Sport claim the Gunners manager may be willing to ask for £25m to seal the deal for the centre-back.
Arsenal could also use the Baggies’ interest in Mathieu Debuchy as a way of getting their man.
City are looking for cover for Vincent Kompany who is once again struggling with injury.

Arsenal are prepared to consider offers for Francis Coquelin this month.
There is interest coming from France for Coquelin, but West Ham appear to be leading the chase for the midfielder according to the Daily Mail.
It is believed Arsene Wenger dropped Coquelin from his FA Cup squad to face Nottingham Forest ahead of a potential transfer.
Recent transfer windows have seen Wenger bolster his midfield options with Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny, limiting Coquelin’s first-team opportunities.
And since Jack Wilshere’s resurgence at the Emirates, the 26-year-old has fallen further down the pecking order at the club.
The Frenchman has managed just eight starts in all competitions this season, only one of which was in the Premier League.
