PALAKKAD: Even after the state government decided to take action against authorities for flouting rules and allowing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat to unfurl national flag on Independence Day (August 15) at a government-funded school campus, he will hoist the tricolour at a private school here on Republic Day (January 26), according to media reports.

According to Sangh Parivar sources, the flag will be hoisted in a school campus on the outskirts of Palakkad town.

“The sarsanghchalakji (RSS chief) always hoists the national flag on Independence Day and Republic Day wherever he is on these days. Since on January 26 he will be in Kerala, he will hoist the flag there. It should only be seen in this light,” reports said quoting a senior Sangh functionary.

He added that the RSS was a nationalist organisation and celebrating these national days was a part of its culture. He expressed sadness over the state government order not to allow him to hoist the flag last time.

RSS is organising a three-day camp from January 26 in a school near Palakkad town which comes under the administration of the Bharateeya Vidya Nikethan, the education wing of RSS. This time the venue of the function is a private school, which does not come under the state education department.

On Nov.27 last year, the state government decided t to take action against the headmaster and the manager of the school, which allowed Mohan Bhagwat to hoist the national flag on Aug.15, 2017, at the school.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan instructed the public education department to initiate action against the headmaster and the manager of the school for violating rules and defying Palakkad district Collector‘s directive to the school asking the management not to allow Mohan Bhagwat to hoist the national flag on the campus.

On Aug.15, Mohan Bhagwat hoisted the national flag at the Karnaki Amman Higher Secondary School in Palakkad as part of the Independence Day celebrations.

As per the existing rules, only elected representatives, school authorities or government officials could unfurl the tricolour at government-aided institutions. Though the school is run by a private trust, it is funded by the state government.
