The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has reached the final rounds of the Energy Globe Award-2017 as the one and only organisation from India. This is the most important award in the field of environment.

The award will be handed over in the Presidential Palace in Tehran, Iran on January 15 and 16. As many as 2,000 projects from 178 countries have been competing for the award in the categories of land, fire, water, air and youth. Around 60 nations will attend the presentation ceremony.

Finalists of the category fire represent India, Thailand and Spain while the KISS is the only Indian organisation to have reached the final round. The KISS has modernised its preparation of food for its 27,000 students through biogas plants and steam-based cooking, solar heating and rainwater conservation systems.

Expressing his pleasure, KIIT & KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta said, "The rare achievement has brought pride and honour not only for the KISS but also for the entire country.

As the world is facing environmental hazards due to global warming, protection of the environment is felt inevitable on part of each and every inhabitant on the earth."
