Villanova's slide out of No. 1 in the AP Top 25 lasted just a week. The Wildcats returned to the top spot in Monday's poll after an upset-filled week that included losses by No. 1 Michigan State and No. 2 Duke. Villanova moveed up from third to No. 1, where it spent three weeks in December. West Virginia climbed four spots to No. 2. Virginia climbed five spots to No. 3, followed by Michigan State. NEW YORK — Rutgers is back in The Associated Press women's basketball poll for the first time since 2015. The Scarlet Knights jumped into the AP Top 25 on Monday at No. 21, riding an 11-game winning streak. Rutgers (15-2) was last ranked on March 2, 2015. UConn remains a unanimous choice from the 32-member national media panel after cruised to two easy victories last week. ATLANTA — Coaches Frank Beamer and Mack Brown were selected Monday for the College Football Hall of Fame, part of a class of 13 that includes former players Ed Reed and Calvin Johnson. Brown won 244 games in a 30-year head coaching career at four schools that featured 16 seasons and a national championship at Texas. FBC--BRILES-COACHES CONVENTION
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The American Football Coaches Association has canceled former Baylor coach Art Briles' speaking appearance at its convention this week in North Carolina. Briles was scheduled to appear Tuesday in Charlotte in a breakout session called "Standing Strong / Game Management." Briles was fired in 2016 after an external investigation by Baylor found that the school mishandled numerous sexual assault allegations by students, including some against football players. MISSING JOURNALIST-HOUSTON
HOUSTON — A Houston sports journalist who went missing over the weekend after saying she believed she was being followed by a suspicious man was found, apparently unharmed, beneath a highway overpass and has been taken to a hospital for evaluation, police said Monday. Police said Courtney Roland, 29, was found near the shopping mall where she was last seen a day earlier. Roland covers Texas A&M athletics for Rivals, a Yahoo!-owned online publication.
