RTR warns mobile users about ping calls

Austrian regulator RTR is warning mobile operator customers to not call back numbers from so-called ping calls, that is, when the phone rings once and the call is then cancelled. Numbers from such incoming calls are usually from remote regions. If the customer calls back, high costs may incur.

The regulator recently received several enquiries about such calls. Ping calls usually come from a satellite telephone, Lithuania or Burundi.
