Four silos at the closed cement plant in Akranes are still standing after two failed demolition attempts, RÚV reports. After the plant’s closing, it was decided to take down the structure, a process which began in early December.
The first attempt at demolishing the silos was made on December 30th and can be seen in the video below.
The second attempt was made this weekend, and little change was visible in the state of the silos.
The company responsible for the demolition is Work North. Akranes mayor Sævar Freyr Þráinsson previously told RÚV the was no clear notice given to the city before the first demolition took place. West Iceland Police were, on the other hand, informed of the planned demolition and informed residents in the near vicinity.
