CLEVELAND, Ohio — Nicholls State University offensive lineman Brian Hernandez was named to the 20th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic All-Star Team.

Hernandez is one of 49 honorees named to the team, and a total of four student-athletes from the Southland Conference made the list. Joining Hernandez from the SLC were John Cook (Central Arkansas), Marlon Walls (Stephen F. Austin), and Chris Zirkle (Northwestern State).

Hernandez started at right guard for the Colonel offense, helping Nicholls to an 8-4 record and its first appearance in the FCS playoffs since 2005. The Colonels ranked third in the Southland in rushing and had seven 100-yard rushing performances.

A native of Baton Rouge, Hernandez earned his degree in Biology-Pre Med last spring and plans to attend veterinary school. He was also named semifinalist for the 2017 National Football Foundation (NFF) William V. Campbell trophy.
