A Look Back At Recent Deadly Drug Rips

Sioux Falls, SD

Sioux Falls Police spokesman Sam Clemens calls the circumstances surrounding Friday's deadly shooting "a drug rip that just went bad." At least two cases in 2017 were similar to Friday's deadly shooting.

Last February, 15-year-old Kareem Hussein Cisse died in a Western Avenue crash. Sioux Falls Police say the teen and two others had arranged to buy a "very small amount of marijuana."

But when they stole the drug, investigators say another teen, Alexander Lingor, chased them in a pickup. Lingor is accused of hitting the car that Cisse was riding in, forcing it to hit a tree.

In August, a 17-year-old was shot in the chest at Bakker Park on the southwest side of Sioux Falls. The victim, a junior at a Sioux Falls high school, later died at a local hospital.

Police learned that an 18-year-old and the victim were in a car along with two other people and drugs were involved. Investigators didn't specify what was being sold, but said that it was a small amount. The drug deal led to a fight and the shooting.
