Whether it’s sitting in traffic or on a delayed NJ Transit train, commuting has always been a waiting game for New Jersey residents. And it's getting worse, according to recent Census data.
The average travel time for working New Jerseyans is 31.2 minutes, according to the most recently released Census survey data covering 2012 to 2016. That's about 1.1 minutes more than the last survey, which covered 2007 to 2011. The state ranks third in the nation in the hurry-up-and-wait game, behind New York and Maryland.
See if your town made the 25 longest commutes list.
A note about the data: Smaller towns with less than 5,000 workers age 16 and older were excluded from the list.
