Pabualan sizzles as FEU XI crushes UST

MANILA, Philippines — Gio Pabualan netted five goals as defending champion Far Eastern University-Diliman crushed UST, 7-0, to kick off its second round campaign in the UAAP Season 80 juniors football tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium yesterday.

Jermi Darapan and Kieth Absalon also found the back of the net for the Baby Tamaraws, who moved up to 13 points.

National University shared points with De La Salle-Zobel following a 1-1 draw to level with FEU-Diliman at 13. But the Baby Tamaraws are on the top of the table via goal difference, dropping the Bullpups to second place. 

The Junior Archers, meanwhile, remained at third with 10 points, three off the lead.

Darapan opened the scoring in the sixth minute while Pabualan doubled FEU-Diliman’s lead in the 30th minute. Pabualan then netted four goals in the second half (61st, 69th, 71st and 81st) while Absalon, the first round leading goalscorer, struck in the 71st minute.

The Tiger Cubs, who battled the Baby Tamaraws to a goalless drew in the first round, are stucked at four points in fourth spot.

Action resumes on Sunday with De La Salle-Zobel and Ateneo slugging it out in the 8 a.m. match, to be followed by the 3 p.m. duel between FEU-Diliman and NU at the same Malate pitch.
