As Twitchy reported, actress Ally Sheedy of “The Breakfast Club” called out James Franco during the Golden Globe Awards with several (now-deleted) #MeToo tweets. “James Franco just won. Please never ever ask me why I left the film/tv business,” she wrote in one.
Now another actress is calling out Franco with her own #TimesUp tweet, but she’s not getting a lot of support in return.
Hey James Franco, nice #timesup pin at the #GoldenGlobes , remember a few weeks ago when you told me the full nudity you had me do in two of your movies for $100/day wasn't exploitative because I signed a contract to do it? Times up on that!
— Sarah Tither-Kaplan🌈 (@sarahtk) January 8, 2018
Um …
So why did you do it https://t.co/oQ7QoukcIk
— bonnie zimmerman (@bonniez45) January 8, 2018
So you read and signed a contract… I don’t think that’s how this works https://t.co/lwzECa7LmV
— LeAndre Kennedy (@Leandrekennedy) January 8, 2018
I'm confused. I thought the left was trying to get us all to sign contracts for every sexual act and now I'm told that even that's not enough? I pity the schmucks who have to live in this crazy cultural environment. https://t.co/Kuh78uhW2Q
— Inez Stepman (@InezFeltscher) January 8, 2018
The pendulum is swinging too far. https://t.co/zuNgmN05V4
— Jim Jackson 🇺🇸 (@Jim__Jackson) January 8, 2018
So basically someone said "Take your kit off and I'll give you 100 bucks" and this one was like "Alrighty, cool". https://t.co/P5SJJBfnA5
— Shitty Film Critic (@CriticFilmTV) January 8, 2018
So an actress accepts a role & a pay rate knowing the role requires nudity, and then after the fact claims she was not treated fairly. Makes sense. https://t.co/c0vFc8pQiA
— Nate Sudafed (@Eagles_Dan88) January 8, 2018
"I signed a contract to do a nude scene and it exploited me so I said fuck it and did another! Now off to twitter to complain!" https://t.co/wkIyFZZ2Fh
— gcheck (@___gcheck) January 8, 2018
If you don't want to do full nudity in movies, don't sign contracts to do full nudity in movies. I can't imagine a clearer case of consent than a signed contract to do something. https://t.co/2ygNjbD9Vr
— Three Oranges 🍊🍊🍊 (@ThreeOranges) January 8, 2018
Oh god. You signed a contract. You have 4 jobs. You weren't forced into that role. Pick your battles better… https://t.co/qsPLlCzsZF
— Brian Zolenski (@Zolenski) January 8, 2018
If you signed a contract and knew about it,,, is it really exploitive? Like I know you can give consent and then take it back whenever you’re uncomfortable but I mean if u were still trynna get your money and you did it, then it sounds like you only did what you signed up for?? https://t.co/Jq7zOxjN2w
— liv 🧚🏾♂️ (@livanthelife) January 8, 2018
This is reaching. I’m sorry there are people who are sexually abused that need help. Not people who agreed to a nude scene and got paid for nude scene. The mentally challenged get sexually abused 7 times more than any group. Help them https://t.co/uMBvsfFHpS
— Welsh (@KCRoyalsFever) January 8, 2018
Looking for an example of how misunderstanding the difference between being taken advantage of and wishing you had made a different choice? Look no further than a woman who won’t take accountability for knowingly entering into a contract that she later regretted. https://t.co/DO3I4whOuq
— Sugar and Spice (@heymsmeyhem) January 8, 2018
So you read a contract, agree and sign said contract, and then yell victim after the details of the contract are fulfilled? I hate this movement https://t.co/sZ1ej74sFC
— Khal (@Blake_Smith30) January 8, 2018
Pretty much sums up #metoo. No thought, no reflection, no nuance, only accusation and trial by twitter. Kinda of the logical counterweight to Trumpism though https://t.co/poBLXkhpSN
— Andrew Haydu (@HayduAndrew) January 8, 2018
Can someone explain this? Cause I’m confused??? If you get paid for nudity… and signed a contract… you’re being exploited???? https://t.co/srj5WDmfbG
— Asia 🤷🏾♀️ (@__areese) January 8, 2018
I’m genuinely confused though, if you felt weird about it why did you sign the contract and why did you do it for not only 1 but 2 movies? https://t.co/sBlWaa1OSt
— Gen (@runningbullets) January 8, 2018
I don't understand this at all? https://t.co/bVugyD8WJj
— Alasdair (@Ally140992) January 8, 2018
For those who don’t understand, a few supporters stepped forward to help explain.
The replies to this are so awful and prove we have long way to go to understand how gender discrimination and abuse of power works. #timesup https://t.co/LP6Urn7X7T
— January Blue Tits (@chip_daley) January 8, 2018
👏🏻 Hollywood 👏🏻 pressures 👏🏻 women 👏🏻 into 👏🏻 nudity. Coercion is not consent. Power imbalances matter. Like when banks tricked the poor/foreign into mortgage purchases that ultimately fail, yes they signed a contract but not all contracts are fair. https://t.co/zORaMa7D9U
— Virginia 🙂 (@MacGinners) January 8, 2018
Dozens of horrible replies claim that since she signed a contract, it can’t be exploitative.
I’m only a 1st-year law student about to begin my 2nd semester this morning. But yes, the law does consider imbalances of power in determining whether a contract is oppressive. https://t.co/k0lAEBAHsg
— Maia (@MaiaForest) January 8, 2018
The number of people in the replies all just eagerly asserting over and over the same sentiment – that contracts can't possibly be exploitative, because everyone 'agrees' to a contract – is late capitalist patriarchy at its worst. https://t.co/IjTAAlGW64

Tither-Kaplan followed up her original tweet — a lot. Here is a selection:
Im a little cloudy on details if you signed for two films then i get that but if you agree to it once then did it again a second time if the first was so harrowing. obviously i don’t condone any form of abuse to women/anyone just want some clarity
— The bearded warrior (@jfoxon1992) January 8, 2018
If you are a true #male #ally then you wouldn't mansplain and then ask me to "clarify" before you believe me. Thanks though!
— Sarah Tither-Kaplan🌈 (@sarahtk) January 8, 2018
lmao i’m not mansplaining, i don’t see an issue for asking for clarification i don’t have all the facts and wanted to ask
— The bearded warrior (@jfoxon1992) January 8, 2018
No, you wanted to discredit my story. Your aim was not benevolent. Take care!
— Sarah Tither-Kaplan🌈 (@sarahtk) January 8, 2018
People in my mentions telling me to "stop complaining" and "get an agent": I've literally been trying to get a theatrical agent since I was 13 years old. I'm 26. I work my ass off. It's not easy. Nothing has ever been handed to me, I have to take what I can get.
— Sarah Tither-Kaplan🌈 (@sarahtk) January 8, 2018
When you are a struggling, unrepresented, non-union actor who doesn't have a trust fund, life is very different than for an actor who is known, union, and repped. I don't have the luxury of turning down jobs.
— Sarah Tither-Kaplan🌈 (@sarahtk) January 8, 2018
I rely on powerful people to help me, because I don't have access to opportunities without them. If they choose to abuse their power and take advantage of my need to work, that isn't my fault. It's the fault of the abuser.
— Sarah Tither-Kaplan🌈 (@sarahtk) January 8, 2018
I don't sit around waiting for handouts. I have 4 day jobs. Living in LA and pursuing a career in film and TV is extremely expensive. I also have massive student loan debt.
— Sarah Tither-Kaplan🌈 (@sarahtk) January 8, 2018
If a famous actor who has the ability to make or break my career with the snap of his fingers offers me a part, I don't have bargaining power. I need work. I need to eat. I need a career. I can't afford to say "no".
— Sarah Tither-Kaplan🌈 (@sarahtk) January 8, 2018
And if I do say "no" to an offer, or even try to negotiate for myself, I risk getting labeled as "difficult", "ungrateful", a "diva", and never getting another opportunity again.
— Sarah Tither-Kaplan🌈 (@sarahtk) January 8, 2018
Seems Fox News — sorry, F*x News — picked up on Tither Kaplan’s story.
Apparently F*x News has sent some of you here. Just want to make sure y'all know I'm queer as hell and hate our racist sexual predator president. Racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, sexism, and homophobia are not tolerated here. Also, I love abortion rights. 🌈🌈🌈💜💜💜 Don't @ me
