In a day-long operation, a team led by Giridih Civil SDO, Vijaya Jadhav alongwith local police and group of people from local administration including CO Dhiraj Kumar Thakur and Dy SP Nitin Khandewal rescued over 50 to 60 head of cattle at Kasai Mohalla near Kuresi Mohalla area under the town police station here on Sunday.
They also recovered huge quantities of banned meat over five tractors from different slaughterhouses at Kasai Muhalla.
“We have also collected the blood samples, which was floating in the drain,” Jadhav said. Official Rajesh Kumar Mishra, who filed a complaint, alleged that the animals were illegally transported to slaughterhouses in Kasai Mohalla and other areas in the Giridih and also alleged that the animals were subjected to cruelty in the Kasai Mohalla and were crying for care and breathing space for the past several months.
“Non-availability of fodder has been prompting farmers to sell their cattle to animal smugglers.
Later they sold these cattle to the slaughterhouse. The trend of buying cattle from farmers at a lesser price by taking the advantage of the agrarian crisis was increasing in Giridih,” said Mishra. The civil SDO said they were questioning four persons as to who were taken into custody from local street hotels in Kasai Mohalla. “All rescued animals have been treated by veterinary doctor and sent to the local cowshed in Giridih with their first Aid by and recovered cow flesh has been buried deep inside the ground,” she added. The SDO said that local butchers fled when they saw cops approaching them. Cases would be registered under various sections of the Jharkhand Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle prevention Act, she further added.
