The wait for Lt. Ash Tyler's (Shazad Latif) identity reveal on Star Trek: Discovery will soon be over.
Sunday night's winter premiere dropped more major clues about the chief of security's past without ever confirming who he really is. However, showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg say we're pretty close to finding out.
"You'll know pretty soon," Berg tells TV Guide.
The Jan. 7 episode, titled "Despite Yourself," confirms that Tyler underwent a painful procedure called "bone-crushing" to physically alter his appearance and that the chief security officer also had his personality overwritten by a new one. This aligns with the popular fan theory that Tyler is actually the Klingon Voq who was sent to the USS Discovery as a sleeper agent. Despite these major clues, the show has yet to explicitly confirm his true identity.

Thought the big reveal is imminent, Discovery bosses say it's not going to go the way you think it will.
"Whatever people's theories are, I think the way that the way we're going tell this story will be unexpected," Harberts explained. "Because I think most people are gonna be focused on the plot of whatever comes for Tyler and we are more focused on the emotional journey of this character and the ramifications of what happened to him...I think people are gonna be surprised by the story that comes out of this."
Added Berg, "As much as we love watching people pick up clues, we also still wanna surprise [them]."
