Google Doodle honours daring stunt queen Nadia on her 110th birth anniversary
The internet search engine giant Google has paid tribute to the noted Indian stunt queen popularly known as 'Fearless Nadia' with a sketch doodle on her 110th birth anniversary.
The
doodle shows the sketch of Nadia in a fearless attitude with a hat on, her one
hand on the hat and the other on her waist. She is shown wearing a body-tight
garment with green design. The logo of search engine is in the 3-D capital
letters in the increasing style with a slope. In the background tree branches
have been shown.
She was born as Mary Ann Evans on 8 January 1908 at Perth in
Australia. Her father, Scotsman Herbertt Evans, worked as a volunteer in the
British Army. He came to
India when his regiment was seconded to Bombay. Mary
Ann Evans came to Bombay in 1913 at the age of five with her father.
Her father met with an untimely death during World War I and the
family went to Peshawar where she learned horse riding, hunting, fishing, and
shooting. The family returned to Bombay with her mother and she started learning
ballet under Madam Astrova.
Later, Nadia started working in Indian cinema and got famous with
her stage name 'Fearless Nadia' due to her dangerous and difficult stunts.
Though she did many films but she is most remembered for her role
in Hunterwali screened in 1935. The film was a goat hit despite the first-time a
female-lead featuring on Indian cinema.
She
married Homi Wadia, a filmmaker and producer but continued to work in films by
performing her daring stunts even risking her life many times.
