Bradley women remain unbeaten in MVC play

VALPARAISO, Ind. — The Bradley women's basketball team continued its red-hot road start Sunday with an 88-69 victory at Valparaiso.

Senior Danielle Brewer scored a career-best 22 points on 7-of-8 shooting for Bradley (9-5, 3-0), which for the first time in program history swept a three-game Missouri Valley Conference road swing. The Braves also own their first three Valley games for just the third time — and first time since the 2008-09 season.

"With a bunch of young kids, too, that's awesome to start on the road and win 'em," Bradley coach Andrea Gorski said of a roster with just four seniors. "Every game in the Valley is hard, especially on the road."

Bradley has won four in a row, its longest streak since 2011-12, and sits second in the Valley behind only defending champion Drake (4-0).

Bradley took control in the second half, scoring the first eight points of the third quarter to extend the lead to 50-39. That run was part of a larger 12-2 push as the Braves opened a 54-41 lead near the middle of the third. Valpo also opened the frame 0-for- 7 from the floor.

"A great, great second half effort," Gorski said.

Brewer scored 39 in the last two. She paced five Bradley players in double figures. Vanessa Markert added 15 points, while Gabi Haack and Shunseere Kent each had 12 points. Emily Marsh was 5-for-6 from the field and had 13 points off the bench. and Nyjah White turned in eight points and five boards in her first start.

"We found a way to win,"  Gorski said. "And different people stepped up, which we're going to need coming up."

After playing nine of the last 12 games away from home, Bradley plays six of the next eight at Renaissance Coliseum in Peoria. That home stand begins 7 p.m. Friday against Southern Illinois.
