All Spartanburg County Schools will be closed Monday due to the threat of freezing rain.
The National Weather Service on Sunday issued a winter weather advisory for the western Carolinas, including Spartanburg County and most of the Upstate.
The advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday for a chance of freezing rain.
The advisory means that periods of freezing rain can cause slippery conditions on roads and sidewalks Monday morning. The advisory prompted Spartanburg area school officials to cancel school Monday.
Union County schools are on a two-hour delay Monday.
Other delays and closures announced include: High Point Academy is on a two-hour delay; Spartanburg Christian Academy, two-hour delay; Morningside Weekday Preschool, closed; Charles Lea Center, closed; Spartanburg County government offices/judicial center, opening at 10 a.m.
The most likely chances for freezing rain are from Spartanburg County north and west, according to the Weather Service advisory map.
For Spartanburg, the latest forecast Sunday night calls for areas of freezing drizzle between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday, then a chance of rain after 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent, with amounts less than a tenth of an inch possible.
For Monday night, there is a 30 percent chance of rain, mainly before 11 p.m. Patchy fog between 1 a.m. and 3 am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Calm wind.
Tuesday will be partly sunny with a high near 56.
Returns to the forecast later Wednesday through Saturday as temperatures continue to moderate.
Any precipitation should be all rain, with daytime highs near 60 and nighttime lows in the 40s.
