Cape Town may feel a little devoid of Johannesburgers this holiday season, but we can assure you there’s no shortage of celebrities running around its streets. This is at least according to Instagram.

Recently, the city has been featured on a number of celebrities timelines as they enjoy the sun, surf and vistas, and, you know, the drought. But more importantly, these snaps have accrued a slew of likes and views, putting Cape Town on the timelines of millions of people.

Prior to the numerous New Year’s Eve parties taking place across the city, EDM artists EDX and Sophie Francis posted respective pictures of themselves gazing across Hout Bay, and standing on the V&A Waterfront’s yellow Table Mountain picture frame.

Both headlined at the Maiden’s Cove Sounds Like Summer NYE party on New Year’s Eve.

Besides musicians, Victoria Secret models were also spotted. British supermodel Jourdan Dunn posted four updates from the Mother City, with adventures ranging from shoots on Camps Bay beach, to a selfie at the Silo Hotel in the V&A Waterfront, and a snap of her crew with Table Mountain in the background.

Dunn has some 2.2-million followers on the social network.

Living.

Her posts collectively scored over 166 000 likes on Instagram, but this was dwarfed by vlogger Casey Neistat’s recent captures of Cape Town.

Publishing five updates to his 2.9-million subscribed timeline, Neistat spent much of his time on Lion’s Head or on the Atlantic Seaboard’s coastline with his family.

In total, the four snaps and one video garnered in excess of 1.4-million likes and 890 000 views.

The Indian Cricket Team is also in Cape Town for the New Year test match against South Africa, and its squad members couldn’t resist posting a selfie or two. They however seemingly forgot to geotag their snaps (but we can nonetheless recognise the landmarks).

Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar posted the below snap on Camps Bay beach with fellow quick Ishant Sharma. It accrued over 226 000 likes.

Wish u all a very happy n amazing new year 😊 @nupurnagar @ishant.sharma29

Batsman Rohit Sharma, boasting 4.4-million Instagram followers, posted a snap from the V&A Waterfront looking across to Table Mountain earlier this week. It received over 616 000 likes.

Another snap on Sharma’s timeline from the Waterfront gained over 400 000 likes.

However, Instagram’s official account also featured a snap of Cape Town captured by a Capetonian photographer this week.

Freezing a swimmer swan-diving into Sea Point’s pool, Barry Christianson’s (@TheStreetsZA) snap was liked over 957 000 times on the social network in a little over a day.

“His pose makes me think of something a ballerina would have to do a couple of takes to get right,” writes Christianson.

Christianson’s timeline, along with the reposted picture, can be viewed here.
