Four people are dead after a pre-dawn shooting inside a guest room at Galveston's San Luis Resort, according to police.
The victims included a 10-year-old boy, a 5-year-old boy and a 39-year-old man, who police believe were killed by their 37-year-old wife and mother before she turned the gun on herself.
The family was from Baytown and the boys were students at Victoria Walker Elementary School. They and checked in to the resort hotel around 7 p.m. on Sunday night. On Monday afternoon, police said that they were still searching for details about what happened in the hours before the shooting
The incident happened about 4:30 a.m. on the eighth floor of the Seawall Boulevard hotel, Galveston police spokesman Capt. Josh Schirard said. A 911 caller reported hearing several "pops" from one of the rooms inside the hotel.
When they arrived at the room, police found the door locked from the inside and moans coming from inside the room, according to police.
The officers entered the room and found two people dead and two others, one of the boys and the woman, severely injured. They had all been shot, Schirard said. Police found a 9 mm handgun near the woman. Investigators believe that was the gun used in the incident.
The woman and the boy were taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch, where they died. Neither was able to give a statement to officers before they died, police said.
Police believe the incident was a murder-suicide, Schirard said.
This is a developing story, check back later for more details.
