The suicide attempt by Prakash Pandey, a transporter, in the State head office of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office blaming demonetisation and GST for his misery has shocked the party and the State Government.
On Sunday, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat visited Max hospital where Pandey is undergoing treatment. The CM inquired about the health of Pandey and assured all possible help to the worried family members.
Meanwhile the BJP State president Ajay Bhatt has advised the Congress party to refrain from taking political advantage of the unfortunate incident. Bhatt was in Jaipur on the fateful day.
Talking to The Pioneer on phone he said, “I pray to God to save the precious life of Prakash Pandey. I have held a talk with CM on the issue and he has visited him in the hospital.’’
On Congress raising questions on the Janata Milan programme of the State Government wherein the Chief Minister or his cabinet colleagues listen to public grievances at State party head office on selected dates, Bhatt said that the programme is achieving its aim.
He said that the idea behind the programme was to remove hindrances and problems faced by the people in getting their works done.
Meanwhile some BJP leaders are crying foul in the manner in which Prakash Pandey consumed poison in front of Agriculture Minister Subodh Uniyal in the State party office. “The fellow was sending videos on WhatsApp just before he consumed poison. While blaming the CM, demonetisation and GST for his problems he appreciates Congress in his video which went viral.
There is definite plot which should be looked into,’’ said a senior party functionary. Another BJP leader termed the incident very unfortunate.
He said that many people reach the Janata Milan programme and demand Government jobs or waiver from loan which is definitely not possible.
Prakash Pandey was rushed to the Government Doon Medical College hospital from the BJP office after he confessed to having consumed poison on Saturday. The doctors conducted gastric lavage on him to pump out material out from his stomach.
When his condition worsens, he was shifted to Max hospital where his condition is said to be critical.
Sources revealed that he is on life support system and his heart and lungs have been affected by the poison.
Investigations have confirmed that Pandey has consumed Aluminium Phosphide commonly called Celphos. The problem with this type of poison is that there is no specific antidote for it.
