Cops round up teens with illegally modified bikes

KAJANG: Police detained a group of teenagers for riding illegally modified bicycles in Taman Semenyih Mewah here today.
In the 5.30pm incident, the 11 teenagers aged between 11 and 16 were picked up by the Kajang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement personnel.
Kajang district police chief ACP Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the police were alerted about the teenagers' activity by residents there.
"The teenagers were each issued traffic summons for the illegal modifications. The bikes were modified to have their bells and brakes removed, which is in direct violation of Rule 42(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959," he said today.
He said the arrests and the seizure were done in accordance with Section 112(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Ahmad Dzaffir advised parents to ensure that their children are not involved in such illegal activities.
The teenagers along with their bicycles were brought to the Kajang district police headquarters for further investigation.
