Jimmy Kimmel is grateful to Golden Globes host Seth Meyers for kicking off awards season, but that doesn't mean you should expect the Oscars to feel the same as Sunday's award show.
Kimmel laid out his strategy for hosting Hollywood's biggest night to critics during a panel at the Television Critics Association winter previews on Monday, or at least what he's put together so far -- and it started with watching Meyers tackle the biggest issue in Hollywood during the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards.
"I felt like Seth made a joke that was specifically for me and my wife," Kimmel told reporters. "We were sitting there on the couch watching it and we really started laughing [when] he said his monologs was like sending the first dog into space to see if it came back alive. I did feel that way. I have to see what Seth said and how it is received. I do thank him for being that litmus test."

When it comes to how Kimmel will handle sexual harassment or the content of his own monologue, he's not trying to write the script this far out from the award show, especially considering how fast the news cycle changes.
"Donald Trump was opening up the JFK assassination two months ago if you want to know how far away that seems like it was with all the stuff that's happening all the time. If you ask me the night before, I will have a much better answer for you," Kimmsel said. "Suffice it to say, I am sure [sexual misconduct] will be part of the show. Unless a nuclear missile is heading straight for Sacramento the night, then we'll probably skip it and go right to that."
The late night host who made headlines this year with his campaign to save children's coverage under Obamacare is not trying to turn the Oscars into another political platform though.
"I don't intend to use the Oscars as a platform for healthcare, not that I don't think it is something important. It is very important to me -- but I do think you have to remember why you are there and it's not about you," he explained. "You're there to entertain people who are there on the biggest night of their lives. If it gets too heavy then I think you're taking away from that. I always will always be focused on children's healthcare issues and healthcare in general, but unless something major happens that makes me feel compelled to do it, I don't really see tackling that subject matter on the show."

So, what can you expect from Kimmel on Oscar night? Trump jokes for sure and parodies of the big movies that are nominated. Oh, and digs at Matt Damon, of course. Yes, even those jokes take Damon to task for his controversial statements about the #MeToo movement.
"I hope that we're focused on something else two months from now, but if there's a chance for me to give Matt an elbow in the ribs, I'll do so," Kimmel said.
The 90th Annual Academy Awards ceremony will air live March 4 at 8/7c on ABC.
