Is it possible to wear one without looking like a hipster and/or a pillock?

With skinny jeans? NO.
With chinos/matching trousers Yes.
if you worry about what others think, you're pretty much stuffed in this life. Wear what you want and be happy and confident in your own self image. Its a much healthier approach to life.

Yes (if you're a snooker player)
Well I bought a Next suit pursuant to the 1920s wedding, about which there was another thread, and I rather like it. The waistcoat fits, and looks good in a way, but I can't imagine wearing one to work. And no, I'm not a snooker player sadly.
Next had some cracking retro style suits including a really nice green flannel one, but not in my fit Jacket looked ok but the trousers ridiculous.
I ruddy love my waistcoat.
But... I'm also going through a bit of a hipster phase at the moment.
HTH.

Thumbs up for the waistcoat look. I would wear one if I could...

Just why?
Wear what you like but personally I would only wear one as part of a 3 piece. I can't stand the Mumford and sons look and as for the brightly coloured 'hey look at me I'm creative/wacky/an individual ones? They should be reserved for comic conventions and those selling bongs at craft fairs.

I wear a waistcoat quite a bit - I have a few Universal Works ones, mostly with a high battledress style collar rather than a formal V.
I have several waistcoats. I like them. I really couldn't give a **** if other people don't. Tazzymtb sounds like a good bloke, for me.

This is what I have. I was talking about suits with waistcoats.
I love a waistcoat and used to only wear three piece suits but my rapidly aging face and receding hairline has ravaged my once youthful Shakin' Stevensesque appearance and has instead left me with an unfortunate resemblance to Ray Reardon which means I can't ever wear a waistcoat again

Best as part of 3pce suit - with albert chain and half hunter; if there's a gap between bottom of waistcoat and trouser waistband, that's not a good look - either or both don't fit properly.
Some separate waistcoats are ok - but as mrsmith ^^^ avoid the creative/whacky.
I like to think I managed it when I got married last year. Not hipster or pillock I hope
Thats my sister not my wife
Put your bloody jacket on you animal!
Quite an elaborate earring. It's a bold look.
Bonus point for not doing the bottom button up! (Need thumb-up emoticon)

I have a few UW suits but never bought the waistcoats, I would wear them if they fitted me better which considering the suits do fit is a bit odd.
oh, do you mean a "wesscott"?
I think someone's already said Mumford but to save another 1000 words I give you:
Strangely enough I do play lead guitar in a boogie rock band.

I’ve just bought my first one and, in true STW style, I’ve had it custom made from local materials at eye watering expense, and will probably only wear it once.
(As part of the suit I’ll be getting married in)

Well I was waiting for your email of aproval, but it never came..so I made a decision by myself..hope that's OK...?
Caveat here... not with jeans or anything... WITH a 3 piece suit also!!

I did the Distinguished Gentleman's motorcycle ride last summer so got a Tweed one for that. I still wear it, and with scrotty jeans too.
The juxtaposition is a delight to behold.

Does that make it a 4 piece suit then?
