Maoist threat: Families abandon village

| | MALKANGIRI | in Bhubaneswar

After a few days’ lull, Maoists are again making their presence felt in this district after combing operations by the security forces in the interior areas have reportedly decreased.

The Red rebels accused some villagers of providing support to the police and threatened them to leave their village.

Sources said terrorised by the Maoists two tribal families in Kuruba village under the Kalimela police station left the village with their belongings on Saturday and have taken shelter in their relatives’ house.

Few days back the ultras had threatened the family of Mandra Madhi and Banja Padiami accusing that they have been working as police informers and warned them of dire consequences.

Though they repeatedly tried to counter their allegations and said that they were not working as informers, the rebels did not buy their claims. Apprehending threat to their lives, the two families constituting 13 members fled from the village.

This is not the first instance when families were forced to abandon the

village as prior to this two more families had vacated the village due to repeated Maoist threats.
