Boston Celtics
Over the course of Young’s rookie season, the Celtics employed the following wing players: Jeff Green, Avery Bradley, Evan Turner, Jae Crowder, Tayshaun Prince, Marcus Thornton, Luigi Datome and Gerald Wallace.
Unsurprisingly, there wasn’t much playing time available, so Young only spent 31 games and played 10.7 minutes per as he shuttled between the NBA and Boston’s G League team, the Maine Redclaws.
He only played 6.9 minutes per game in his second year, and had to fight for Boston’s final roster spot with R.J. Hunter in his third season. He won that battle, but still only played 7.6 minutes per game in Boston.
Young’s shooting stats -- and confidence -- suffered as a result.
“That was more of a confidence thing, not getting as much minutes as I thought I was” going to, Young said. “That was throwing me off. And then I was just getting in my head instead of playing the game of basketball which I’ve been doing my whole life. That’s what it was.”
He finished his career in Boston with a 2.3 points in 8.4 minute per game average with a 27.6 three-point percentage. He has only scored 10 or more points four times in 89 NBA games.
The Celtics didn’t pick up his team option this past off-season, and nobody picked him up in free agency.
