CHICAGO — The Illinois State women's basketball team lost to Loyola 62-59 in a back-and-forth game settled in the final minute Sunday at the Gentile Center.
Loyola (3-12, 1-3) made 6 of 6 free throws in the final 49 seconds to pull away, keeping ISU (6-8, 0-3) winless in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Simone Goods put ISU ahead 57-56 with a layup at 1:29, but the Redbirds went 0-for-4 from the field before a layup at two seconds set the final score.
Hannah Green scored 18 for ISU, with a career-high four 3-pointers. She tied a career high with four steals, added six rebounds and three blocks. Goods added 15 points, five rebounds and two assists.
ISU trailed by 12 early in the second, unable to ever climb from the deficit.
"I was proud of the way we battled back after getting down, but we have to figure out a way to come out of the gates more focused," ISU coach Kristen Gillespie said. "We have to have that effort if we are going to find ways to win on the road."
The Redbirds return home for a game Friday against Missouri State.
