Despite a viral moment from Oprah Winfrey and a well-reviewed performance by the host Seth Meyers, the ratings for the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night dipped 5 percent compared to last year’s telecast.

The ceremony, which featured big wins for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and “Big Little Lies,” drew a total of 19 million viewers, down from just over 20 million last year, according to early Nielsen data shared by NBC. It drew a 5.0 rating in the key 18-49 demographic coveted by advertisers, down from 5.6 last year, a decline of 11 percent.

The normally glib Golden Globes faced the challenge this year of addressing the widespread sexual assault revelations that have rocked Hollywood; many actresses responded by walking the red carpet wearing black. The red carpet show drew 10 million viewers.

Jimmy Fallon, a higher-profile celebrity, hosted last year’s ceremony, which included plenty of jokes about President Trump and inspired a trending Twitter hashtag, #BoycottGoldenGlobes, thanks to backlash from Trump supporters. But this year’s show had the benefit of not going up against a football game, as both N.F.L. wild card games occurred in the afternoon.

Even with the declines, the Golden Globes telecast was the most-watched and highest-rated non-sports telecast since the 2017 Academy Awards.
