Police men and women attended the Sainik Sammelan and crime meeting held at the police lines here in Pauri. The men and women in khaki also participated in a competition to disassemble and assemble their weapons with blindfolds on.
The aim of this competition was to test the fitness of the police personnel for night time operations involving the use of their weapons.
Speaking at the Sainik Sammelan, the Pauri district senior superintendent of police Jagat Ram Joshi stressed that the problems by police officers and personnel will be addressed. In response to the SSP stating that problems could be raised in the Sainik Sammelan, many problems were raised by policemen and women with issues also being addressed on the occasion. The SSP instructed all the police stations in charge to bring police personnel who are performing well to the meet so that they can be felicitated for their performance.
In the crime meeting, the senior superintendent of police exhorted the personnel to discharge their duties with honesty and discipline. Stressing that they should always behave in a good manner with the public, the SSP also directed the personnel to especially identify the senior citizens living in dire circumstances in the district. Joshi reviewed the preventive measures taken in the year 2017 and expressed satisfaction on the work conducted in all fields and warned the women police station of Kalagarh, Devprayag and Satpuli for not working upto the mark in preventive measures. The SSP said that during 2017, action had been taken by the police in 62 cases under NDPS Act, 145 cases of Excise Act, in five cases under Gambling Act, in 16 cases under Goonda Act, 14 cases under Gangester Act, 13 cases of 110 CrPC and 40 cases of Arms Act. Apart from these cases, during the previous year 76,157 challans were issued under the Motor Vehicle Act which was higher than the 53,496 challans issued under the same act in 2016. Additionally, 2,576 cases were registered under the Police Act including 134 cases of drunken driving in which the vehicles of those caught driving drunk were also seized. Action was also taken for cancellation of the driving license of those caught driving drunk. In the cases of crimes, the district police achieved a good success rate in solving the cases. Of the seven murder cases, three were solved while out of the three cases of loot registered in the previous year, all were solved. The SSP further said that out of 12 cases of vehicle theft, nine cases were solved while 19 out of 29 cases of theft were solved. Out of 35 kidnapping cases 24 were solved in 2017, he added. Joshi stressed that on the complaints, the report should be lodged by the police and efforts should be aimed at solving the cases of crime swiftly.
