Earlier today, Network Rail engineers began emergency repairs to fix a structure that carries overhead wires over all four lines. Severe corrosion was found on the structure which means trains are unable to safely pass underneath.
Repair work is currently ongoing and passengers travelling to and from Liverpool Lime Street station today are advised to check with their train operator before travelling. The work is scheduled to complete overnight.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We have worked as quickly as possible to carry out repair work to the structure today and have a schedule of work to complete overnight that will allow us to reopen Liverpool Lime Street tomorrow morning. The lines will remain closed for the rest of today. I would like to apologise for the disruption caused and thank passengers for their patience while we carry out the repairs.”
