OVILLA
City Council members in Ovilla will consider the next step for developing a parks system at its Monday night meeting.
The council will consider a contract with Grant Works, who the city is looking to partner with to create a parks master plan. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.
City Manager John Dean previously stated that, if the council approves the contract Grant Works, it would first survey the community. This would help to find out want the consensus of the community is and what amenities they want in the parks.
The survey would be conducted in several methods including online surveys, mailers, and possibly public meetings. The information would be collected from the public from January through mid-July.
“What I am looking for is what does the community think that we need. I don’t have an agenda like we need 20 baseball fields or anything like that,” Dean said previously. “I think that we need to know what the community thinks that we need. From there we move forward in what is realistic and what is reasonable.”
Once the survey is complete, Grant Works and city staff would start applying for grants. One organization that the city is looking to apply for funding is from Texas Parks and Wildlife, who offer recreation grants.
The city’s existing parks include Heritage Park located in the 600 block of Cockrell Hill Road, Pritchett Park located off of Ashburn Glen Lane, the park located behind city hall in the 100 block of Cockrell Hill Road, and a park located on Buckboard Street.
Council members will consider adopting an ordinance to authorize a general election to be held on May 5. The three members of the council that are up for re-election include Place 1 council member Rachel Huber, Place 3 Mayor Pro Tem David Griffin, and Place 5 council member Michael Myers.
In other business the council:
• Will consider establishing requirements for permanent dumpsters.
• Will consider awarding the Red Oak Creek 12-inch water line crossing project contract agreement.
• Will consider awarding an information technology management technology services agreement between the city and NetGenius.
• Will consider a resolution for a master service and purchasing agreement between Axon Enterprises Inc. and the city.
• Will consider a resolution to update the city’s investment policy.
• Will consider a resolution for a service agreement between the city and deaf action center.
