- Mobile app for food and beverages
- 3,000 fans had access during soft launch
- Plans for mobile ticketing in 2018
The Detroit Lions failed to fully deliver on the field this season, but they did step up their concession game.
The team introduced a mobile app for food and beverages designed to help fans avoid lines at the concession stand. It was available to 3,000 fans seated in Ford Field's new Grid Iron Club during the final two games of the season.
The app, developed by Pittsburgh-based YinzCam Inc., was rolled out as a soft launch and allowed users to order from the mobile menus of El Asador, Slows To Go, Flowers of Vietnam and Bigalora Cucina, according to a company news release. After ordering from their phones, users were notified to pick up their orders within 10 minutes.
After more testing during upcoming events, the Lions plan to open the app to eight other restaurants in the stadium and make it available to fans in all seats.
The team also plans to introduce mobile ticketing and a mobile loyalty program for next season.
"We hadn't had Wi-Fi in the stadium prior to this past year, so entering the 2017 season, we focused on making our mobile app more than just an extension of our website and the great content that fans enjoy there," said Todd Marcy, the Lions' director of digital operations.
The move to mobile is part of the Lions' campaign to improve fan experience following a $100 million renovation of Ford Field, which included a decked out scoreboard, seating and suites overhaul and improved Wi-Fi.
