Overwatch Leagues matches and skins go live this week

The Overwatch League Team list has been confirmed and the first matches are set to kick off on Wednesday, January 10.

All the action is being streamed live from Blizzard’s LA arena, meaning that a lot of the first OWL games will be on quite late in the UK.

As stated above, the opening week of action begins on Wednesday, with three matches a day being played from then, until Saturday, January 13.

The games start at different times each night, Day One will see San Francisco Shock take on Los Angeles Valiant at around midnight, UK time.

That’s around 4pm in LA, although the game itself is likely to kick off a little after that.

January 10 Overwatch League schedule:

  • San Francisco Shock vs. Los Angeles Valiant - Midnight GMT
  • Shanghai Dragons vs. Los Angeles Gladiators - 2am GMT
  • Dallas Fuel vs. Seoul Dynasty - 4am GMT

NEW TEAM COLOURS AND OVERWATCH LEAGUE SKINS CAN BE FOUND BELOW:

Stage 1 of the Overwatch League inaugural season begins on January 10 (running through February 10), and will also include Overwatch League skins.

And Blizzard have already revealed how the game’s eSports teams will be able to sell their colours to fans.

It has been confirmed that Overwatch League skins are coming to brawls, with all twelve designs being offered up for purchase.

All twelve teams in the inaugural season will have their home uniforms available, including for all 26 heroes.

The money apparently won’t be going to Blizzard, but will be used to fund your chosen team, with other changes being implemented too.

League commissioner Nate Nanzer has also confirmed that new currency - League Tokens - will be used to buy League Skins.

This is being implemented so that it is easier to track fan net-spend on the Overwatch League, keeping it separate from the base game’s loot box economy.

The main difference will be that players will be able to spend money on the exact Overwatch skin they want, rather than a random drop.

The Overwatch League skins have yet to go live but will likely be made available very soon.

And for those wondering how they can watch everything go down, The games will be broadcast on Twitch and the Overwatch League site, in partnership with Major League Gaming's broadcast service.

As confirmed by Blizzard this week, the first season of the league will see matches played at an eSports arena in the Los Angeles area.

This will be followed by the chosen teams migrating to their local venues for formal home-and-away play in future seasons.

The traditional sports style will allow the new owners to build up their own franchises, much in the same way NFL and Premier League teams have done so.

The Overwatch league will see teams receive an equal share of all league-wide net revenues, while teams will also keep all local revenues generated through their home territory and venue, up to a set amount each year.

Blizzard have also confirmed that above the set amount, a percentage is sent to the league’s shared revenue pool.

In addition, teams will have a license to operate and monetize up to five amateur events in their home territory each year, and to benefit from the sale of league-affiliated fan items in Overwatch, with 50% of the revenues going into the net shared revenue pool for all teams.

It’s also been revealed that the Overwatch League has a current prize pool of $3.5 million, and another $1 million for  the team that wins it all in the grand finals, with second place earning $400,000.
