Padmavat not Padmavati to hit theatres on January 25; will clash with Akshay's PadMan
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama Padmavat will most likely hit theatres across the country on January 25.

According to industry sources, the film which was earlier titled Padmavati underwent a name change as per the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) suggestion and was finally given a U/A certificate on Friday.

Padmavat will now clash at the box office with Akshay Kumar's latest flick PadMan which was earlier slated for a January 26 release.

It has been a long wait for the period drama based on the story of Rajput queen Padmavati as its initial release date was December 1. The film has been surrounded in controversies from the time of its conception with objections pouring in from fringe groups like the Karni Sena who have alleged that the film distorts history.

On Sunday, film trade analyst Ramesh Bala, in his tweet wrote: "Multiple sources indicating a possible Jan 25th release for Padmavat."

However, a clash between Padmavat and PadMan is not good news for Bollywood as footfalls and the audience will get divided between two films, as it happened last year when SRK's Raees and Hrithik's Kaabil had released on the same day.

Although various trade analysts had predicted that both Raees and Kaabil would at least collect Rs 150 crore each, due to releasing on the same date, they only collected Rs 225 crore in total.
