HILLSDALE — A Bryan, Ohio, man accused of killing 37-year-old Jeremy Alan Barron of Camden will face a jury of his peers this week in Hillsdale County Circuit Court.

Jay Scott Clark, 40, is charged with homicide — open murder — statutory short form and weapons — felony firearm for his participation in Barron's homicide. The homicide charge carries a maximum possible penalty of up to life in prison and or any number of years.

The case began April 2, 2017 when a couple of Amish children riding horseback through a wooded area discovered a body, later identified as Barron, on a plot of land on Dimmers Road near Gilbert Road in Camden Township.

A weeks-long investigation by the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office culminated exactly one week later with the arrest of 27-year-old Ashley Diane Hoath — Barron's on again, off again lover — and Clark.

Hoath pleaded guilty to second degree murder just days before her jury trial was scheduled to begin in late 2017 and is scheduled for sentencing in February. In exchange for her guilty plea, Hoath agreed to testify against Clark.

During earlier court hearings, the Hillsdale County Prosecutor's Office gave slight indications that authorities believe Barron was killed by Clark on or around Feb. 8, 2017 before being dumped in the wooded area.

Clark will appear in circuit court at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning for the trial which is scheduled to last three days.
