After the State Election Commission decision to reserve the post of Mayor of Hazaribagh Municipal Corporation for women belonging to Scheduled Tribe, aspirants have moved to file review petition before the commission. Two days ago the state election commission has issued a notification regarding the reservation of seats of mayor and chairman of different Municipal bodies in which election is expected within two-three months.
Hazaribagh Municipal council was elevated to the rank of Municipal Corporation in January 2016. The elected chairman of Hazaribagh municipal council, Anjali Kumari, who was enjoying this post for the second consecutive term, enjoyed the tag of mayor for about two years and she was dreaming to capture the chair again for the third term.
The denizens of Hazaribagh will have to choose a scheduled tribe woman this time because in the first election of Municipal Corporation this post has been reserved for ST women as per the notification issued by state election commission. Many names were in talks in Hazaribagh town as a serious contender for this post. AJSU leader cum last time nearest rival of MLA Manish Jaiswal in assembly polls Pradeep Prasad was one of the aspirants of this post according to his workers and near and dear persons.
MPs representative Prof. Surendra Sinha was another name which was hot in the talks. The name of some present ward councilors was also in talks for this race.After issue of this notification some aspirants immediately departed to Ranchi to lodge their decent on this decision. With some other members of municipal bodies of other towns Mayor Anjali Kumari also went to election commission on Friday. A number of such persons have submitted a joint request letter to the commission to reconsider the decision.On the other hand those who believe that the commission is not going to change its decision have started searching candidates for the post. Since this election is going to be held on party symbol so affiliation of different ST women political workers has been added in the current talks going on in the city. As per current talks the name of Mala Tirkey as probable candidate for Mayor from BJP and of Murmay Chaki, two times ward councilor, as strong aspirant from AJSU is common in every talk regarding this election.
