Betty White claims vodka and hot dogs are her secret to living longer.

The five-time Primetime Emmy Award winner, who turns 96 later this month, also credits her longevity with simply focusing on positive things, rather than negative thoughts.

“Accentuate the positive, not the negative,” she told Parade magazine. “It sounds so trite, but a lot of people will pick out something to complain about, rather than say, ‘Hey, that was great!’ It’s not hard to find great stuff if you look.”

The former Golden Girls star also opened up about her eating habits, and dismissed trendy health foods and fads, instead opting for food she loves, namely vodka and hot dogs, “probably in that order”.

Betty’s career has spanned more than 70 years, with TV shows such as Mary Tyler Moore, The Bold and The Beautiful, and Boston Legal, and movies including The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and You Again alongside Kristen Bell and Jamie Lee Curtis.

And the veteran actress has some advice for up-and-coming stars in Hollywood, telling them to “do their work”.

“Learn your lines and come in prepared,” she said. “Don’t think you can wing it, because you can’t. We’re in show business, which is fun, but take your business seriously, because it is a serious business.”

The 95-year-old also has one birthday wish that she’s tried to fulfil for many years: to finally meet her celebrity crush Robert Redford.

Betty has had the wish on her bucket list for a long time, but her efforts to meet the suave Hollywood actor have never come to fruition.

“It never works. I try every year,” she jokingly complained.
