Several lakhs of rupees in interest and compound interest have been imposed over the survivors of earthquake who were provided loans to build their damaged houses, said former Chairman of Awas Sangh Jabalpur and Madhya Pradesh Congress Cooperative Cell Regional Director Suresh Yadav while speaking with the mediapersons on Sunday.
After the earthquake Awas Sangh was made nodal agency along with other agencies and 2500 victims were provided with a loan of Rs 7.5 crore.
The victims were provided a relief in the interest payment for the next three years but now around 500-600 people who were not able to repay loan have been imposed of interest and compound interest which is in lakhs of rupees.
Yadav said that he had communicated with the Cooperative department to waive off interest and compound interest from the victims who are still unable to repay the loan.
Commissioner Cooperative and Registrar Cooperative Societies Madhya Pradesh have issued orders of waiver for Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Awas Sangh from interest and compound interest under lump sum payment scheme for the defaulters.
The 600 defaulters would be provided complete waiver off interest and compound interest from January 1, 2013 to December 12, 2017.
For those who have availed loan of Rs 5 lakh and above have to pay interest only and this is the point where Yadav has objected and claimed that it is discriminatory behavior.
Those who have availed loan of Rs 5 lakh and above have to be provided with the benefit of complete interest waiver and he would communicate for the same to provide the benefit.
