The Golden Globes 2018 celebrated the best TV and film of 2017, but more focus was put on political messages and statements of solidarity last night.

Stars wore all black to protest a culture of sexual harassment and assault in Hollywood.

Natalie Portman’s female directors slam made a pointed statment. Introducing the Best Director contenders, she said matter-of-factly: “And here are the all-male nominees.” 

Celebrities stormed the red carpet dressed in black this year in protest, wearing a pin that reads 'Time's Up'.

But what is the meaning behind it and what is the 'Time's Up' pin?

The protest is part of the Time’s Up movement which is in recognition of the #MeToo viral hashtag.

Other stars that wore black included Kendall Jenner, Penelope Cruz, Reese Witherspoon and Margot Robbie.

Angelina Jolie wore a black dress and a sheer cape with feathers along the bottom.

Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke wore a busty black column dress with a diamond choker.
