Golden Globes 2018: Social media reacts to activism, all-black dress, #TimesUp movement

75th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals
Frederick M. Brown

A vast majority of the celebrities attending the 75th Golden Globe Awards Sunday night in Beverly Hills wore all black, and it wasn't just for the fashion — it was a statement.

Actors and actresses, some wearing "#TimesUp" pins along with their dark attire, did so to spread further awareness of the sexual harassment, assault and misconduct in Hollywood that has been reported over the past few months. This is part of the Time's Up campaign, which according to its mission statement, is a movement for "inclusion of women and marginalized people" and "equity and parity across all industries."

Many celebrities took to social media to explain their reason for taking part or to support others, while fans expressed their varied opinions on the matter as well — with some calling the Hollywood protests hypocritical. Check out the reactions below.

Golden Globes 2018: Celebrities arrive in black

Wearing black today in solidarity with the men and women asking for respect and equality across industry lines. Let's bring a stop to sexual harassment in the workplace. Join us in wearing black and saying #TimesUp.#WhyWeWearBlack @TIMESUPNOW pic.twitter.com/rFkBxOhV0t

I wear black in my college room on Sunday in India to support young girls and women who are harassed and abused at places of education. Grateful to be in a world where this has become unacceptable.
