These Are the Best Moments From the 2018 Golden Globes

The 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards were packed with the biggest names in TV and movies, celebrating all the excellent projects of 2017. Putting so many A-list celebs in a room with a couple dozen live cameras is always a recipe for success (or at least some entertaining TV), and there ended up being so many amazing moments it's hard to chose the best. But we'll try. Here we go!

Oprah's amazing speech

While accepting her award, Oprah told the heartbreaking story of Recy Taylor, a young black woman who was kidnapped and gang-raped by six white men on her way home from church in 1944. None of her rapists were ever persecuted. Oprah used Taylor's story as fuel for the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment. "A new day is on the horizon! And when that new day finally dawns it will be because of a lot of magnificent women and some pretty phenomenal men fought hard to become the leaders to take us through a time where they don't have to say 'me too' again." Needless to say, she got a standing ovation.

Seth Meyers' opening monologue joke about Harvey Weinstein's absence fell a little flat at first, but then he made is so much better (or so much worse, depending on how morbid you like your humor) by reminding everyone that he'd be back in 20 years as the only person to ever be booed during the In Memoriam section.

Sterling K. Brown's thank you to Dan Fogelman

During his acceptance speech for Best TV Actor in a Drama Series, Sterling K. Brown spoke directly to his showrunner, Dan Fogelman. He thanked him for writing a role specifically for a black man as opposed to colorblind casting was so inspiring and touching it practically belonged on an episode of This Is Us.

Laura Dern's speech about speaking out

Big Little Lies cleaned up, but of all the winners' speeches, Laura Dern's for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series win was definitely a highlight of the evening.

Tommy Wiseau's weird appearance

James Franco invited The Room's Tommy Wiseau to help accept the award for Best Actor in a Comedy... and then didn't let him say anything on stage.

Allison Janney's bird

Let's never forget that Allison Janney committed to a joke so hard that she was somehow actually persuaded to wear a stuffed bird on her shoulder while introducing I, Tonya.

Natalie Portman vs. the patriarchy

(via)

" data-image-credit="" data-image-alt-text="Giphy Emmys 2018" data-image-credit-url="" data-image-target-url="" data-image-title="Giphy Emmys 2018" data-image-filename="giphy-1.gif" data-image-date-created="2018/01/08" data-image-crop="" data-image-crop-gravity="" data-image-aspect-ratio="" data-image-height="266" data-image-width="480" data-image-do-not-crop="" data-image-do-not-resize="" data-image-watermark="" data-lightbox="">

The moment in which Natalie Portman burned the freaking house down while announcing the nominees for Best Director should go down in the history books as the best sass of all time. "And now, the all male nominees." Ya burnt, patriarchy!

Tequila for everyone!

Frances McDormand offeried to get tequila for all the other ladies in her category after the show. Now that's someone we hope wins every year. Partyyyy!
