Mumbai: Man held for stalking Sachin Tendulkar’s daughter Sara

Mumbai: The Bandra police have arrested a 32-year-old man from East Midnapore in West Bengal for threatening to kidnap the 20-year-old daughter of Sachin Tendulkar, who resides in Mumbai. The police said the accused, Devkumar Mitti, had made multiple lewd calls to the victim’s landline number from his cell phone. He is being brought to Mumbai and will be produced before the court on Monday.
Mitti claims he fell in love with the ex-cricketer’s daughter when he saw her on television sitting in the pavilion and watching a cricket match. The cricketer’s daughter studies abroad and the calls were answered by her domestic help. The case was registered after the former cricketer’s manager approached the Bandra police on Friday. Mitti has her name tattooed on his arm and wanted to marry her. He never met her.
A team was immediately formed on Friday and flown to West Bengal after the cyber cell of Mumbai police traced the caller’s mobile location in East Midnapore district. He was arrested on Saturday from his house in Mahisadal. Mitti’s mother told the local media that he is mentally distressed, ever since his father expired. The case was registered on January 5 at Bandra police station. The accused was produced before the local court in West Bengal on Sunday. The city police needed to secure his transit remand to ferry him to Mumbai. He is yet to be interrogated.
The Mumbai police are still to ascertain how he obtained the number of Tendulkar’s daughter but zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya was categorical that Mitti used to call her landline number from his cell phone. “We don’t know how he got her landline number. He threatened to kidnap her and he also made some sexually explicit remarks,” said Dahiya.
His cell phone has been seized. Jobless Mitti, a school dropout, has been booked on charges of stalking, criminal intimidation and using word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
