Mumbai: MHADA set to give new lease of life to residents Badani Bohri chawl by providing with new flats

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is all set to give a new lease of life to residents living in Badani Bohri chawl by providing them with new flats. At least 88 tenants will get new flats who had opted for getting their buildings redeveloped by the housing authority.
These 88 families were residing in old cessed buildings and hence approached MHADA for getting their buildings redeveloped by them. These families had been shifted to the transit camps in 2002. The housing authority could only begin the construction of the new building in 2015 due to court litigation. “We had acquired the cessed buildings which involves a long process. We could not redevelop these buildings early as there were some on-going court cases,” said a MHADA official.
The tenants were provided with the flats through a computerised lottery system at Samaj Mandir located at Bandra east. “The tenants are glad that they will now reside in the new flats and appreciated our process and smooth working,” added the official.
MHADA could construct the new building and provide ready possession to the tenants in less than three years. At present, there are at least 68 flats and one commercial shop which are unoccupied in the new building constructed by MHADA. “We are planning to allot these spaces through the lottery system which would be conducted in future,” added the official.
