With appointment of two new working presidents in Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) from SC and ST category to team up with PCC President Bhupesh Baghel who belongs to OBC community to change party’s fortune in State which goes to polls this year, the BJP has hit out at the Congress for promoting caste-based politics.
Senior BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal who is a Cabinet Minister in BJP Government in the State since December 2003, said that Congress always believed in caste-based politics while the BJP believed in politics of development.
BJP State President Dharamlal Kaushik mocked the Congress decision to have two new working presidents besides a PCC chief and asserted that instead of three State party chiefs the Congress would have gone on appointing five chiefs to accommodate a leader from all the five regions of the state as state Congress chief.
Kaushik opined that appointment of two working presidents, Ramdayal Uikey from Scheduled Tribe and Shiv Kumar Daharia from Scheduled Caste, would further fuel infighting within Congress.
Congress has also sacked Renu Jogi, wife of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, as deputy leader of the opposition and appointed Kawasi Lakhma to succeed her.
Lakhma is Congress tribal face in Bastar region which has 12 assembly seats and Congress had performed exceedingly well in last assembly polls in restive Bastar region by winning eight seats.
