A play based on the story of a criminal who is trying to save himself raising questions on the system, ‘Fandi’ was staged on Sunday at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium. With only three characters on stage, the play created a great impact over the audience.
Directed by Santosh Panicker, the play is written by Shankar Shesh. The play was performed by the artists of Rising Society of Art and Culture (RiSAC), Bhopal.
The play revolves around the protagonist who is a poor truck driver named Fandi, and facing the charge of murdering his terminally ailing father. The nervous lawyer appointed to defend Fandi, though good hearted and a sensitive man tries to help Fandi, but falters in the court especially when the Government prosecutor turns Fandi’s friends into foe and his wife doesn’t turn up for testimony. Other witnesses naively close the door to Fandi’s release.
The lawyer recognizes his own inefficiency and invites another senior advocate. The senior advocate argues the case but the judgment is left to the imagination of the audience.
The performance by three actors was striking; the way it brought forth various dimensions of the society was commendable. The young actors were successful in keeping up the pace of play.
Lokendra Pratap Singh as Fandi gave a marvelous performance and gave various shades to its character during the one hour long play Shubhankar Dixit as Fandi’s lawyer was flawless in his performance and Anoop Sharma as Jail Warden was also good.
The play was much enjoyed by the audience as they witnessed an entirely different concept on stage.
